The planned interventions, described in the following paragraphs, are aimed at ensuring the fulfillment of the goals and objectives that Brianzacque intends to achieve with the construction of the lamination tank in the Municipality of Busnago:
- Resolve critical hydraulic issues on Carducci Street concurrently with the elimination of spillway 381;
- Limiting the flows discharged from the spillway into Vareggio Creek; and sanitizing the new network;
- Resolve critical hydraulic issues that occur in rainy weather at the mixed sewer in San Rocco.
The design solution involves the decommissioning of spillway 381 in Carducci Street. Due to the increase in storm flow rate in the downstream section, it is planned to replace the DN1000 mm diameter concrete pipe in place with a DN1400 mm diameter pipe. Also due to the increase in flow rate brought about by the decommissioning of spillway 381, spillway 442 is planned to be rebuilt from scratch, equipping it with a self-cleaning automatic grating system.
Finally, the design solution envisages the construction on the outfall of the new spillway of a completely buried reinforced concrete lamination basin having a useful volume for the reservoir of 4,700 cu m and a total volume of about 7,300 cu m. The lamination reservoir will be equipped with no. 3 centrifugal pumps with a nominal flow rate of 30.0 l/s each (2+1 reserve), which are necessary to empty the reservoir at the end of the meteoric event and relaunch to the existing DN1000 outfall, which then discharges the water into the Vareggio stream. The system allows the basin to be emptied in about 22 hours using two pumps and about 14 hours using the backup pump if necessary. In addition to the aforementioned, an additional pump (nominal flow rate 10 l/s) will be installed to discharge back into the municipal sewer system at the existing manhole 883 to flush water from the tank.
