The freeway upgrade required an adjustment of the existing interchange, providing for the turnaround of the apron on the side opposite the existing one and maintaining the trumpet scheme with only the tolled maneuvers diversion and entry ramps to and from Varese/Como. The new toll barrier is located on the east side of the highway, mirroring the existing one. The project included the construction of the new interchange overpass (pk 8+203.46) shifted by about 90 m in the Varese/Como direction compared to the current one and the construction of the interchange loop (60 m internal radius) exactly mirroring the existing one by shifting the Varese/Como-Lainate exit ramp toward Milan by about 50 m. As for the toll booth, the following interventions were carried out:
Implementation of islands and lanes on the new apron;
Construction of the station shelter;
Construction of the station building and facilities;
Construction of the car parking canopy;
Construction of all necessary cable ducts and service networks for the operation of the station;
Implementation of complementary facilities such as lighting, security and signage.
