J+S was in charge of the project for the adjustment of the interconnection of the SP300-SP119 roads in the municipality of Lainate (MI) and Rho (MI) as part of the planned infrastructural works related to the supplementary act of the Program Agreement (hereinafter referred to as AdP) for the re-perimeter, redevelopment and re-industrialization of the former FIAT Alfa-Romeo area in the municipalities of Lainate, Arese and Garbagnate, illustrating the design choices and design criteria, the insertion of the intervention in the territory, the preparations and facilities for safety, the part of preparatory and supplementary studies for the formulation of the basic cognitive framework to support the design (hydrological and hydraulic studies, geology and geotechnics, expropriations and interferences, mitigation and compensatory measures, etc.).

The supplementary act to the PPA aims at the urban and environmental recovery of an area that has been degraded and abandoned to date, which housed the production plant of the Fiat-Alfa Romeo car company. What is proposed will also allow the redevelopment of the area subject to intervention from the point of view of nature and ecological connection with neighboring areas, also promoting a socio-economic revitalization of the areas affected by the former industrial complex that had begun with the implementation of territorial transformations defined in the initial Agreement approved in 2012.

The new urban district proposed in the Urban Variant referred to in the AdP Supplementary Act is located within the Metropolitan City of Milan in correspondence with the former FIAT-Alfa Romeo manufacturing hub and is located in the municipal territories of Arese, Garbagnate Milanese and Lainate.

In order to ensure improved traffic flow and effective access to the subdivision, the outcomes of the traffic study involved new points of connection with the road network in order to distribute traffic volumes over more intersections while relieving congestion on existing ones.

Thus, numerous infrastructural interventions have been planned that will upgrade where necessary the existing road system; in fact, new development will induce additional traffic to the subdivision, so it will be important to mitigate its effects through solutions aimed at improving vehicular circulation, together with limited infrastructural impact.
